OnthelineistheabilityofMedicaidbeneficiariestofreelychooseahealthcareprovider,includingphysiciansatPlannedParenthoodwhoprovideservicesotherthanabortion,likecontraceptiontreatmentsandcancerscreenings.
SouthCarolina’stwoPlannedParenthoodclinicshaveservedmostlylow-income,minoritywomenformorethan40years.HundredsoftheirpatientsareMedicaidrecipients.
ThecasealsoimplicatesthemillionsoffederaldollarsPlannedParenthoodreceivesintheformofreimbursementsfortreatingMedicaidpatientseachyear.
AccordingtoPlannedParenthood,34%ofitsoverallrevenue,or$699million,comesfromgovernmentgrants,contracts,andMedicaidfunds.
