It’s Time For Congress To Ban Noncitizen Voting

AmericanelectionsshouldbedecidedbyAmericanvoters.That’sthebasicprinciplebehindtheSAVEAct(HR22),alandmarkbillintheU.S.HouseofRepresentativesmeanttorequireproofofcitizenshipwhenregisteringtovoteinfederalelections.That’ssomethingmostAmericans—evenmostliberalvoters—agreeon.  ButCongressionalDemocratsdon’tseemtocare.TheykilledtheSAVEActlastyearandseemintentondoingsoagain.Alongwithso-called“democracy”activistsandliberalpunditsinthepress,DemocraticelectedofficialsareworkingovertimetoscareAmericansintoopposingacommonsensebill. Thepublicshouldn’tfallforit.TheSAVEAct,firstintroducedlastyearbyRep.ChipRoy(R-TX),amendsexistinglawtorequirethatstatesobtainproofofcitizenshipfromanyoneregisteringtovoteinfederalelections.AwiderangeofIDswouldbeacceptable,includingabirthcertificate,apassport,oramilitaryID.ThatisthesamebasicrequirementAmericansarealreadycomplyingwithwhentheygetaREALID. TheSAVEActwouldhelpsolveaclearproblem.Rightnow,voterregi
